I want to start sharing my months partly as a way to ground myself in routine and partly as a way to show that while some months are full of travel and excitement - like spending most of June in Wilmington photographing beautiful humans and living the beachiest life - others are quite bland. I'm not using that as a negative word - bland months are as necessary as the exciting ones. But in the midst of them they can drag me down and make me feel unproductive and simply bored.
So at the beginning of every month I'll be writing up a short recap, sharing photos, and music that filled the previous month. I'll shorten this one a bit as to not create a ridiculously long post.
The month of October came and went so quickly. The weather cooled briefly but stayed warmer than usual. Typically around this time of year I'm ready for the cold. I want to wear boots, I want to bust out my coats, and I break out the beanies all too soon. This year was different. I found myself putting on tank tops on the sunny days and trying to give my skin the warmth for as long as I could. I'm not upset about still sweating a little in my un-airconditioned car - I'm actually feeling happy about it (crazy, I know). I'm feeling grounded in the present. Experiencing fully what the days offer and not wishing it was Christmas in mid October. (<-- I feel as though this is a huge step in my adult life.)
Beginning of October we spent some days in North Carolina. Seeing Dawes with close friends in Asheville kicked off our weekend in the Smokey Mountains, and what a good way to do it. Then we spent a few days at Penland School of Crafts and got to meet amazing people, drink wine, hike in the rain, and take in all of the mountainy fall glory.
Mid October was all about Oktoberfest. We had the awesome opportunity to shoot Nashville's festival and I was blown away by all of the people and the energy of the whole thing. Who knew there were so many people that loved to put on leiderhausen and drink beer out of huge mugs! It was so fun. And the pictures turned out well which is always a plus.
End of October was a time of rest and waiting. Two of our closest friends were nearing the end of a pregnancy and I was the birth photographer. Little baby boy was supposed to come hang out on the 28th but ended up waiting until the 3rd. I'm writing a story about this experience right now, so I don't want to give away too much. But I wanted to share a few of my favorite shots (cried my freaking eyes out while editing these).
We ended the month with a halloween party at our place and some good old fashioned spooky movies. My favorites this year were Wait Until Dark and of course, The Shining. We were listening to a lot of 1920s and 30s spoooooky music and some Ryan Gosling Dead Man's Bones - an all time favorite.
Hope everyone had a relaxing October and lets all take some deep breaths before the upcoming holidays.
